1937: Private investigator Walt Tolliday and his family have left San Francisco to hide from a violent gang intent on retribution. They find refuge in Los Angeles’ Chinatown, but the rundown neighborhood is soon to be dismantled to make way for the new Union Station railway depot. Walt and his Asian wife also face bigotry as a mixed race couple and financial despair in the midst of the Great Depression.
